Battleship (but only one ship)

In a traditional game of Battleship, two players take a 9x9 grid and place multiple battleships in various locations across the grid, and then take turns shooting at different sectors in their opponents grid, ultimately trying to knock out all of the opponent’s pieces first. Battleships’ strategy comes from creating an optimal placement of shots so you can quickly determine what areas the opponent’s ship is still hiding. This optimal placement is determined by understanding what pieces the opponent still has on his field, and the size of those pieces. This makes battleship somewhat a solved game, that when both players are playing optimally, the game will largely come down to luck.

To save battleship, (and inspired by the Gamemaker’s toolkit theme of only one) we have recreated battle ship where each player only has one battleship, and the battleship can manifest itself as any shape on the field as long as it is the same size. This removes the solved nature of the game, and players will have to create a new strategy in order to win this game.

In this sense, this game is an experiment. Can creating a battleship with only one improbably battleship allow for a more fun experience? Will this have an equally optimization strategy that will just have to be learned? We made this game to find out.

DESIGN PHASE:
Design your battleship

In battleship (but only one ship), you have 17 tiles to design one giant, improbable battleship. Start by choosing a starting square for you ship, and then building out 16 additional tiles from there. Tiles will only be peaceable if they are adjacent to other tiles, and you have not exceeded the tile limit. Press clear to reset the design space, press submit to check your ship design and enter the battle. can you design an evasive battleship?
